Win 7 Pro 64-bit.  If I'm in an Explorer window and want to check a single file, such as a downloaded file, and I right-click and click on the Avast icon that says "Scan selected items for viruses", Avast does NOT start or show to check the file.
I must first Open Avast, then go back to Explorer, select the file, and right-click on the Avast icon before Avast will check the file.
This has been a problem for a while, even through the brand-new version 19 - 1 - 2360  .   Avast - when will you fix?

Yea i kow you want this to work but in case you think it is not scanned at all ....

File is scanned (should be) when you download it / and saved to disk, you can test that this work by downloading EICAR test file

and you also have the option to upload and test it at virustotal.com   i guess you already know this

Pondus - that's good, but "Explorer" "Scan selected items for viruses" should work, and it doesn't.

it works here so you might want to try repairing your avast install

@ glnz
Given your recent posts, you appear to have more than a single issue.

Perhaps it is time to do a clean reinstall of the latest version.

Specialist17 and DavidR -- I have done BOTH a Repair and a clean re-install.  This problem has occurred to others, and it continues.

By the way, I also have Avast on an old XP machine (which continues to get updates through the POS hack).  The same problem occurs there.

In common with specialist17 I don't have this problem on either of my systems:

In my XP system (which isn't supported in avast 19.1.2360) no matter what SP you have. I'm using an older version of avast for this XP system.

On win10 64bit system (laptop) it to cycles through the scan and then throws up a toaster popup (bottom right of the screen) to indicate the scan was run and no issues found.

I do have a win7 32bit netbook, but that has a very old avast system as I'm basically abandoning that system.

The function works just as it should.
This should make it easy to follow:

DavidR - You are correct - on my XP machine, Avast is still 18.8.2356.  However, it does not scan individual files from the right-click command.

Bob3160 - I guess I wasn't clear - what you show is what is not working on my TWO machines.

Than maybe you should do a clean install as as already suggest by DavidR. Clean Install of Avast:

The video I shared isn't old. It's brand new with the latest free version installed.

Bob - I guess I still have not been clear.

I have done a clean UNinstall and a new REinstall.  The problem continues.

I certainly can't duplicate the problem as evident with the video.

I just did another total UNinstall (also rebooting and using Clear) and REinstall.

It worked once, but not again.  The explorer right-click scan this document does nothing unless I open Avast first.

Needs to be fixed.

Sounds more like an individual problem. Not something that effects many users.
