I am running Avast Pro 191.2360 build 191.2142.0 on Windows 10 Home version 1709. Since the latest update, I am often seeing Avast detection consuming 25% or more of my CPU (4-core processor), causing the laptop to become sluggish. I can understand if it were during file access but I have seen it continue to consume cycles after the program or file has completed loading, or even after the application is closed. Disabling the avast! shields does not appear to resolve the high CPU. can most easily reproduce the problem when using ACDSee (image manager/editor) but have also seen it periodically with Office applications and during browser activity. Disk activity is typically 1% or less, with avast! disk activity of 0.1 MB/s or less. So far, I have seen the same problem on two laptops.
I have done a repair of avast! - it seemed to help but only for a day or so. I will do a clean uninstall/reinstall when I can free up the time.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks, Norbert
