Stop popups??
« on: October 27, 2018, 11:24:11 PM »
Hi all,

I get the idea that "free" software has to be supported somehow, ut is there a way to TURN off the constant hagging to "upgrade" or to buy some VPN or other crap?

Dear Avast Engineers, if I clicked "No thanks" the previous 50,000 times, odds are I don't want to upgrade or buy your VPN, or your "security suite" or "data shredder" or "webcam protector" or "ransome ware shield" or "firewall" or or whatever.  Continuing to harass me for the rest of my life turns me from a supporter of your product to someone who despises your products and tells his friends to not use it.

I went to MENU/SETTINGS and changed all the "popup" options to "0".    I've checked all the settings and turned off anything that looks like it might produce the nagging popups.

Have I overlooked the option or is it just time to uninstall and add Avast to the "evil software" list?
Avast, you guys are as bad as Jehovas Witnesses knocking on the door!

First that setting won't have any impact on promotional popups.  Setting the popups to 0 is actual changing the duration to unlimited rather than 0 seconds.

I do reduce some of the popup instances, but it doesn't impact promotional popups.

I don't seem to get that many, I don't know if that is the case with new users, I guess I have a high tolerance threshold I just X out those that do appear.

It is somewhat pointless to continue throwing up popups time and again, unfortunately those in marketing don't seem to be able to strike a reasonable balance.

Yes.It is very annoying to get promotional popups every single time.Avast should minimise the promotional popups in free anti-virus.

I get very few popups on the free version.
I also don't install all the items that cause those popups.
Use a custom install or delete the paid Components that you don't intend to purchase

I'm a PAID user and I'm bombarded with pop up promo ads.  This needs to stop.  Please tell me how.

Unfortunately the link given in Reply #1 is from 27 October 2018 and doesn't reflect the very new Avast 19.1.2360 UI layout.

The same options are now in the AvastUI > Settings > Privacy or AvastUI > General > Data Settings.
As I'm an avast free user I don't have these ad/promotion settings.

Lately I've noticed when i post for other computer issues on other forums,   i usually get a reply back with something like dude it's 2019, it's time to dump 3rd party antivirus, and just use Defender, and Malwarebytes Premium, sure i'd do that if could afford premium maybe for all systems

But Avast Free even with the minimal popup ads is still my preferred protection, as always has been since 2006,  The ads aren't really a nuisance per say,  just something have to deal with when using a top notch free av i feel

Gist is that Avast is a top-notch antivirus vendor and thus should not have to resort to scare tactics to sell additional products, as they have repeatedly done in the past.

You are right, best tactic is to ignore, you can trust Avast to protect you.

"top-notch antivirus" - maybe, but when I change my main computer to Windows10 with Defender, I do not need third party help.
