Hi, I just copied one or two fils to my external hdd connected by usb. I tried to safely remove usb. But i got alert problem ejecting usb drive. Your device is currenly used in another process. close it and try. it. I jsut closed explorer and then tried, but i could not safely remove the usb hdd.
I tried to close explorer.exe and then reopen it, but nope.
I tried to find the device process that use , without any action taken by me, i could not find anything.
in one of the forum, it says that windows list those event ids in windows event viewer in ID No.225, kernal pnp in system.
I went to event viewer, expand window logs and then system logs. I right click and click , the current event log and given id no.225. It opens a window, where this id was given inn the window log.
Surprisingly , the main opening of the first log, which i experience the problem time, was avast processes.
Why avast is not cosing it handles, whenver the program runs.
i had not remembered that i had scanned a file in the usb hdd drive.
I just copied three files from pc to usb hdd.
How avast open handles to the drive  and why it prevents the usb from safely removing it.
i had ejected the drive using disk management and do it offline from online.
My query is why avast is accessing the drives, when user not configure a scan on files in the storage.
Will the avast team look in to this . i opened and most of the logs , show, the usb could not be safely remove , because of avast processes.

You scanned or opened a file so it was checked by Avast.
That doesn't change the fact that Avast should have released that file once the scan was completed.

Hi, sorry for late reply.
i already mentioned that i have only copied some files to the usb hdd drive. i would have scanned some file in pc, using the avast. That is not in the usb drive.
Now , have you got the point.
I already raised this handle closing issue with avast ,, but it seems that avast team is not giving much thought to it.
I have already informed that the tech advice in event id and other forums are go for altenative to avast.
While i welcome , avast latest scan of malware in the free version itself, avast team need to study the user annoyance also, by experimenting the use of such.
Services or drivers, which causes starting problem are always found to be from avast process handles.
If i close the scan whether auto or user custom scans, the handles to such scan media should be closed by the program.
I am a long user of avast, but i would like avast team to experiment their drivers updates as when they update their version for any bug

I have the same issue on two different external drives. Every time I transfer files on them, I can't safely remove them because some process is using them. And I saw on Task Manager that "Avast Service" is taking around 30-35% of disk usage, even if I didn't scan anything or if I wait a few minutes. The issue appaeared in the last weeks, not sure exactly when. Maybe when I updated Windows to the 1809 version, or maybe with a quite recent Avast update (last month?).

I have Windows 10 version 1809 and Avast Free version 19.1.2360.

Re USB ejection woes and Avast.
There are more reports of same issue on another thread here.
Note the problem has been reported to Avast devs by bob3160 this weekend.

Hi, i already pointed out his to avast.
the refileason i suppose, is the file belonged to avg first , when avast took avg, the same problem continues with the avastif if you see the properties, the original file owner is avg.
this has been a file found problematic by so many persons and some discontinued use of avg itself
avast has to go deep in to this sys file or dll file , which is causing opening of so much handles , even when user does not touch anything on avast scan.
Expected a reply, but avast team , i suppose give thought to this kind of problem first before releasing future definitions.
the solution on most sites are just uninstall.
avast may well to look in to this usb problem.
nobody wants avast handles on things that is not user made
hope

Hi there are one more thread on this. Hope avast team look in to the matter and fix it.event id 225 shows maximum events of avast processes preventing safe removal of usb drive. Avast should not be doing what the user has not opted. It is risky to not safely remove tb sizes hard disk storage. Please put efforts to solve this annoying problems.
