So I updated Avast on Jan 17, 2019 and after I rebooted I started getting the "UI Failed To Load" screen and clicking "Restart Service" wouldn't work. Later that day I got a notification from Windows Defender that it had detected malware in Avast. I am posting today because I'd just now finally found the notification in event viewer (copied the details to notepad and attached txt file). So after receiving this notification, I ran scans in Windows Defender and also Malwarebytes (free version). I quarantined and removed everything I didn't recognize as false positive (IoBit advanced systemcare) and rebooted to complete the action as prompted by Malwarebytes. All was good, Avast started normally and I ran a scan and nothing was detected (same with Malwarebytes). But the next time I booted my PC I started getting the same "UI Failed To Load" screen and clicking "Restart Service" wouldn't work. It has been like that ever since. I've run scans with Malwarebytes and it doesn't detect anything, same with Windows Defender. I tried the "Troubleshooting the "UI Failed to load" error message in Avast Antivirus" on Avast Support website (
https://support.avast.com/en-ca/article/Troubleshoot-Antivirus-UI-Failed-load) but Remote Services or whatever was already set to automatic, but still I changed it & changed it back then rebooted and the problem persisted. I then turned on "Controlled Folder Access" (Exploited Protection) in Windows Defender and now am constantly getting notifications that different programs within "C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\..." are attempting to make changes to data. I had also tried to repair Avast from the uninstall utility but it did not help.
My question is: How can I get Avast to work again and is my computer (specifically the Avast i have installed on my PC) infected?
