Computer freezes after bootup...
« on: July 31, 2006, 05:53:32 PM »
Installed avast free edition and after booting up I noticed that my zone alarm
icon is not present in my icon tray. My whole desktop and icons are present..
but when I click on an icon to execute a program all I get is the hour glass.

I wait for minuets but nothing happens. I can't even shut down normally. I have to
shut down by shutting off my power switch which I don't like to do.

I restart and maybe after the third time I will see the zone alarm icon in the icon tray.
After this everything is normal.

Can you please help me with this issue?

TY....

- Boot in safe mode
- Then boot in normal mode

See if that solves it.

If not, disable ZA from loading at boottime and see if that solves it.

That is certainly not normal, I haven't seen anything like it in the forums, what version of Zone Alarm are you using ?

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.4.6112 (build 24.4.9067.762) UI 1.0.803/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

I did what Eddie suggested and disabled zone alarm at startup which solved the problem.
I just have to enable zone alarm manually each time after bootup.

Thanks Eddie..

David..

I have zone alarm pro installed. I uninstalled Norton 06 with the add and remove feature
in control panel.
I have Webroot Spy Sweeper.. Ad-Aware Se personal.. Spybot Search and destroy..
and Spyware Blaster installed.

Maybe you do not have to start ZA manually :-)
1) Remove ZA
2) Remove NAV completely (is explained in many other threads on this board)
3) Reboot
4) Run CCleaner and CleanUp! (< easy to find with Google)
5) Reboot
6) Reinstall ZA
7) Reboot

I got a feeling that will solve it
