Avast Free Antivirus: Installing additional definitions... for the boot-time scan has been running for two hours. In previous versions it took 10 - 20 minutes. I need to use my computer, so I gave up waiting and closed the software. See attachment.

Is here any reason why detection dialog button changed from run smart scan to upgrade Avast?

Yes we are testing different approaches in this case.
If user get detection dialog in web browser, it should be blocked and user should know everything is ok, no other action is required.
If user get detection by file system shield, avast should recommend full system scan or boot time scan.
And so on....
How upgrade Avast button help me in this situation?

Well you don't say what Avast version you are using as Automatic Software Updates is a paid version only (as far as I'm aware).

Plus the range of software that is updated is very limited, mostly it is only those frequently targeted for exploit.  I only have 5 programs monitored.

I was surprise that in the beta version when doing a Smart Scan, it alerted me of 4 3rd party program updates and allowed updating all 4 with one click.

Hello,
I need advice. Suddenly my Avast premium doesn't work. No firewall and passwords. Can't even log on to my account. It say "Loading...this shouldn't take long", nothing happens though.

Thanks in advance
Annika
Repair Avast:
1. Avast GUI -> Settings -> Troubleshooting
2. Click on 'REPAIR APP'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is Avast GUI and where can I find it?

Sorry  :-[

Hi
The Avast GUI is the Program "User Interface"

You can "Right Click" on the Avast Icon in the Bottom Taskbar and choose 'Open Avast User Interface' at the top.
The GUI will open. (See attached Screenshot)
Once opened then go to Menu/ Settings/ Troubleshooting and choose "Repair" (See Screenshot)
As Asyn stated, follow instructions :)

HI, I tried accessing the user interface as instructed but it still shows "Loading... This shouldn't take long".

I've also tried going to control panel > uninstall > repair.

I've also tried restarting the PC.

NOthing worked. Avast still says i'm unprotected.

I checked my license and it's still valid.

Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
