Hi All, we identified wrong interaction with OpenVPN driver which causes BSOD UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP. So, please could you tell me if do you have OpenVPN instaled?
hi and thanks for the update.
i do not have open vpn here, actually never heard of it before.
i use nord vpn

is it worth me deleting avast premier using uninstaller and loading 19.1.2360 using offline version.
i need vpn to be loaded by 8pm tonight for hospital work from home.

Nord, as well as many other VPNs use OpenVPN as the base of their product sort to speak.

I have the same issue as described with my VPN that used OpenVPN as the base.
ahh got ya, thanks. i had to google it as i thought it was a stand alone vpn.

ok
so that didnt work.

removed in safe mode using avast tool. 19.2.2364 build 19.1.4142.454

as previously said, without the antivirus loaded my vpn loads and connects.

installed premier using ofline link on here rollback 19.1.2360

opened and checked version and it is still 19.2.2364 but the build has changed to 19.2.4186.404

but once again as soon as i open nord it blue screens.

i am now going to have to stand down from my hospital oncall work as i need a vpn.

Where did you get the offline installer from for v19.1?

When you installed Avast via the offline installer, was your internet connection disabled? Avast automatically downloads the latest version if you are connected to the Internet.

You need to use the offline installer with your internet disabled and then immediately set the program update option to manual via Settings. Then you can re-enable the Internet.

On a side note, I'm using NordVPN with Avast Internet Security v19.2.2364 on Win 10 Home and haven't had any BSODs while connecting/using the VPN.

I have this BSOD issue, and I use Vypr VPN.  I use their "Chameleon" mode protocol, but it itself is using OpenVPN 256-bit:
https://www.vyprvpn.com/features/chameleon

So yes, your explanation seems to fit with my crash scenario.

DOH! sorry im so stressed out with this and explaining to work why i cant work from home checking brain scans.
your right, i was still connected oopps.
i will try again.
this was the page i got the installer https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=224223.0

i did have it unplugged from net but plugged it back in to check the vpn which then loads and connects as it always has done.
does anyone from avast think this issue could be rectified so as me and the others using various vpn's will be able to use them again while avast is running.
the issue was caused by an update so can it be rectified by a later update.
sorry for all the questions but i have a year subscription left here and over 2 years vpn subscription.
and the most important thing is i will not be able to do any more oncall for hospital until this is rectified.

EDIT:

so once again a big fat fail.

used clean tool in safe mode > deleted > unplugged from internet > used offline 19.1.2360 and loaded > went to set to ask first before updating and 19.2.2364. still loaded but with a different build of 19.2.4186.0

can anyone post to another page with 19.1.2360 please as im now pulling my hair out. thanks.

The installer you used is v19.2. The Avast links are always the same for offline versions but they only store the latest versions.

ahh thanks. is there anywhere i can get the older version please. ive seen it on file hippo and a few other sites but id rather get it from an avast source just in case.

also any idea how long a support ticket for this issue takes to get a reply.
thanks for the advise so far.

Alikhan, I think that's VPN BSOD problem after update to Avast 19.2 at Windows 7 only. Problem and 32bit and 64bit and Pro and Ultimate, that's why you don't see any problem on you Windows 10.

Hi Martin
as previously mentioned by others i guess i do have open vpn

has there been any update from the devs as 3 days without a vpn is seriously affecting my work for my hospital where i am viewing patient data on my home computer (or not as the case may be as i had to stand down last night and get another colleague to view the patients CT and MRI scans).
the only way i can get the vpn to work is totally remove avast which defeats the object of buying protection.

Hello,
same here https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=225219.0
Open VPN technology (PIA)

I would add that this is not necessarily due to the 19.2.2.2364 update but probably to another type of avast update, because I also have the problem with the January 19.1.2360 version when there was no problem last month with this version.
Issue only with W7 (not w10)
I uninstalled the avast firewall but not other shield of avast and it works (however, simply disabling FW in UI does not work)

Hi Chris
which vpn are you using?

everything worked perfectly up until 19.2.2364
i went to run a full scan and it flagged an update was available. i ran the update and it advised to reboot as usual. as soon as it rebooted and my vpn auto connected  within a split second of it connecting it blue screened but only one time. now i have had 24 black screens of death but the dump report is showing it as blue screen dump reports.
