[SOLVED] AMS blocks loading selected websites in Chrome
« on: February 13, 2019, 03:02:38 PM »
Hi,
On all my Samsung and Moto Android devices (Oreo, v 8.1.0) I have loading problems with selected sites (i.e. https://forum.beneluxspoor.net).
When I deinstall Avast Mobile Security there are no problems.
After reinstalling AMS the problem occured again.
When I forced Chrome to stop for approx. 1 minute everything is okay, but after a short blinking of the Avast logo in the upper left corner of the screen, the problem is there again.
Reinstalling Chrome is also no solution.
Using Chrome 72.0.3626.105 and AMS 6.16.4.

Remark: there are no problems with Chrome 68 and Chrome bèta 72  :-\

Anyone a solution?

Hi,

I've solved the problem. The cause lay in the combination of Avast Mobile Security (AMS) and Chrome (some code in the website??)
Work-around:
1. Turn off device management in Anti-Theft.
2. Force stopping AMS.
3. Force stop from Chrome.
4. Start Chrome.
5. Start AMS.
6. Enable device management in Anti-Theft.

Now everything is fine.

It seems there is a conflict between AMS with Chrome 72 and/or the website when the AMS Advanced Webshield is ON.
If Advanced Webshield is switched off and after Chrome is forced stopped + restarted everything works fine.

Other browsers don't have any problem with the website and AMS Advanced Webshield on.

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue! The team has been able to reproduce the problem on one of our testing devices and is investigating it now. We are not sure yet, whether this is a Chrome bug or an AMS bug.

But as we scan the web before the loading gets stuck, it might be that the Chrome/Web page code somehow conflicts with accessibility service. So it seems improbable we are causing this, but we need to double-check, which will probably take some time. Thanks for understanding.

@Tereza V: Thanks for your reaction.  👍
I am waiting for the results.
Till the next Chrome update I will continue by switching off the Advanced Webshield on one of my devices.

The new Chrome version 73 doesn't solve the problem.
Does Avast have a solution yet?

Hi, unfortunately it seems we are not able to fix it or do anything about it - the web is scanned before it gets stopped, so our mechanisms do not block it in any way.

Hi Tereza V., it seems to be a conflict between the securities of Chrome and Avast in combination with the specific website.
After stopping Chrome and restarting it, the Avast notification in top of my screen is disappeared.  Chrome works fine now.
But after a while the Avast notification appears again and Chrome blocks the website.
Could the Tapatalk plugin in the website to be the "bad boy"?

At the moment I am using DuckDuckGo (instead of Chrome) without any problems.

It took a while, but with the update from Chrome for Android to version 75.0.3770.67, the conflict between Chrome and Avast AMS seems resolved.
From now on the web page https://forum.beneluxspoor.net will load normally again.
