Additional files for Boot-time Scan - download doesn't work
« on: February 14, 2019, 11:20:13 AM »
I have tried a few times to initiate the download of additional files for the boot-time scan, but it doesn't work and so I can't access the additional settings for boot-time scan and also, I presume, there are some virus definitions that are missing and not being checked. I just see a message saying "Installing additional definitions", but it never finishes. I am using Windows 8.1 and I did a fresh install of Avast Free Antivirus yesterday, so it's the latest version.

Is this a known bug (I can see other references to it on this forum saying it is very slow) or could it be some malware on my computer preventing Avast from working correctly? If so, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, everyone.

Hi, I just tested it here (same OS) and can confirm the issue. I'll forward it.

Hello,

unfortunately in latest version it is broken. It will be fixed in 19.3B2. If you need to do boot time scan, as workaround, please use 19.1 offline installer https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jzgiWWPzSYw__wU1Nyg60oh8lJC23G5_/view?usp=sharing.

If you plan to scan your computer at boot time only once, after 19.1 install, then without reboot you just initiate boot time scan. Boot time scan definitions are automatically removed (to save space) after a week from last boot time scan, but in mean time they are updated regularly as other definitions.

If you want to use it sometimes (more then week from each other) you have to download 19.1 full installer, turn off your internet connection (otherwise avast will update itself to 19.2 automatically), after 19.1 is installed turn off automatic updates, reconnect to internet and initiate boot time scan.

We apologize for inconveniences caused.

Best regards,
Jaromir

Hi @jaromir,
Is there any way you can verify that this is a safe download?
Downloading an unverified file from Google Drive doesn't seem safe and you do not appear to be a moderator of this forum. My aim, is to make my computer and network as secure as possible, so I would feel safe downloading a file from the Avast server to be certain of its authenticity.
Thanks.

It has been confirmed broken in current 19.2 version by Avast Jaromir in his post above, so will not work for any Win OS right now.
Just need to patiently await Avast devs to fix.
