I don't know what avast is doing but how do i make it stop?
« on: February 14, 2019, 12:34:12 PM »
So i've been using avast since highschool and i'm in my 20's now so i like to think avast is my goto anti-virus. starting today after a reboot however i find that the avast service program has become a bit memory hungry. before it'd sort of just never really use much then all of a sudden it's using a fair amount starting low at boot up and then rising to 100mb or so with the occasional spike. I'm someone that keeps their pc on for days and it's never been a problem. tech news free netflix
I've updated the program, run the repair tool and yeah at the time of this post it's sitting at about 101.7mb in memory. if this is just how things are now i can accept that and move on but if not well...i want to replace my pc this year anyway so maybe i'll just do so and move onto another anti-virus if this is gonna be the norm.

When the CPU load is high, dump the Avast process consuming the CPU. (Windows Task manager > Details tab > right click on the process(avastsvc.exe) > Create dump file)
Upload the dump to Avast FTP (https://support.avast.com/en-eu/article/FTP-file-upload).
Create a support package (https://support.avast.com/en-eu/article/Submit-support-file) and post the ID here.

Pick a unique name (and post it here), so the devs can find it.

Things do build up when you leave your computer on for an extended period of time.
It's amazing how much nicer thing run if once in a while you actually restart your system. :)

Be glad you have that option, to leave system alone for days at a time.

I remember Windows 98 SE, where one had to restart several times a day...much better now....
