I need some help

I've been using Avast for quite long and never have had any problem until now. It doesn't want to update. Teh red frame appeares informing me about error trying to get update and tells to click to get more information but after clicking (if I get chance because it disapeares almost instantly) nothing is happening. I'm worried because the days are passing and my virus database is outdated. I tried to do manual update trough tray icon but it is not working as well. I'm not a 'computer advanced' person. Can somebody tell me what to do?

Can you tell us the full information of the error as this will help us to help you ?
Check the Warning section of the avast Log Viewer and see if there are any entries there for the failed updates.

When does the error occur, shortly after boot, etc. when ?
What type of internet connection do you have ?
Have you tried a manual iAVS update, does that work ?
