"Avast Secure Browser has full access to your Google Account"

...is displayed in the security section of my Google gmail account. The access was added, I think, on January 29. I don't recall providing my gmail password to Avast.  Is this OK and normal? I think that was about the time the Avast program asked if I'd like to enable "Behavior Shield".

You can sign into your my.avast account with your email address or, your google account or facebook.
Sounds like you choose your google account to sing in.

hmmm...  actually, now that I experimented a bit with this, it seems whenever I log into Gmail using Avast SafeBrowser, Avast is added to my Google Account as a third party app with full control (see attached .JPG).

Gmail has the following write-up regarding this:

Full account access

If you give a site or app full account access, it can see and change nearly all information in your Google Account. Full account access means a site or app can see and copy your information, edit or delete it, or create new information. Sites or apps with full access can’t change your password, delete your account, or use Google Pay to send, request and receive money.

I can log into Gmail with Internet Explorer, and IE is not shown in Gmail as a third party app with full account access.

Perhaps there is no difference and perfectly normal, but for some reason Avast is listed and IE is not?

Using IE and then signing into gmail isn't the same as signing into avast using your google account.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I never signed into my Avast account (that I know of). I simply started up Avast SafeBrowser and went into https://mail.google.com to access my email.

So, as far as I can see, only my Gmail account and Avast SafeBrowser were involved here, not my avast account.

When you registered Avast, you opted to use your google account to register.
It has nothing to do with using the Secure Browser
