Miami Changes Location to Czech or sometimes Brazil
« on: March 01, 2019, 08:01:45 PM »
I've had this issue for two years now. I wrote in a while ago and was told it was some issue with just me. Recently it started annoying me again and I searched the forums and found many with the same issue, but did not see a fix.

When I try to connect to the Miami location on VPN (which is the most convenient since it's close to me), my location is changed to be Czech or Brazil. This makes Google useless, among many other websites that translate into a language I don't know.

What is the fix for this?

I've noted exactly the same thing:  Google is in Spanish, etc.,.

Workaround is to log off log back on paying attention to the IP address connected.

There has to be a more permanent solution after this happening for years. This is not an inexpensive service. I should be able to connect to a local station and not have it throw me to czech or brazil.

I've also run into this when I used Miami as the default while I was in Florida in Jan.
I've reported this on the Developers forum. Let's see if that helps.

You can throw in the Chicago location as well...reports as Brazil or Portuguese.

New York as well. I am in Prague Czech Republic. Have had issues with Chrome/Firefox changing as well. I read that it is a virus and that keeeping your browsers up-to-date solves this. Um. Not always. And if it is a virus, why the heck doesn't Avast catch and eradicate it?! >:( >:( >:(

It has nothing to do with a virus.

Yeah, NY (the OTHER East Coast option) does this as well. Shows as other countries. Really hoping we get an answer or a fix on this.

Avast is looking for the following information in order to track down the problem:
"a rough time when the problem was observed and the Czech/Brazil IP address that you can see on some IP-checking website"
Avast will also need some user info such as email or licensing info. (don't post that personal info here.)
Once available, I'll supply the Avast place where to send that information.
