Windows 1809
« on: March 11, 2019, 02:57:56 PM »
This is not an Avast issue but I need some help on this.1809 will update but then it freezes after a few minutes even in Safe Mode.My system runs fine on 1803.Since its not possible to troubleshoot 1809 because it just will not run is there a procedure for getting some answers.Acts like a driver issue but running driver verifier on 1803 finds nothing.MS Communities is no help at all.Clean install and clean boot still makes 1809 freeze.

My Dell XPS 8300 desktop was not auto-updating from 1803 to 1809.  I crossed my fingers and forced an update using the Windows 10 Update Assistant.  Fortunately, I had no problem.  However, due to certain BIOS limitations, chipset versions and other issues I don't understand (I'm not a computer professional), not every computer that can run 1803 will be able to run 1809.  I believe you have one of two possible problems.  Either your system is not compatible with 1809 or your update software somehow is corrupted.  For more info, you may want to see:
https://www.computerworld.com/article/3326059/microsoft-gets-explicit-about-windows-10-upgrade-blockers.html

In your case, it sounds as if you didn't force an update, rather you did a clean install.  Perhaps in that case you didn't have the ability to receive the blocker messages the above article refers to.

You may want to try once more from 1803 using the Update Assistant:

Good luck!
