Avast has put a programme into the virus vault
« on: March 26, 2019, 10:51:50 AM »
Avast has put a programme, Reimage Repair, into the virus vault and I can no longer access it. I have reported it as a false positive but nothing has changed. I need to access this programme to carry out some software repairs. What do I do?

Test the file at VT (https://www.virustotal.com) and post the link to the result here.

By the sound of it I would not touch a program like that with a barge pole let alone try to into install it on a PC.

I think AVAST probably did you a favour sending it to the vault. I'd use a purpose designed thorough uninstaller like Revo or BCUninstaller and just get rid of it.

I know this is not a general PC help forum but I feel the pertinent question here is to ask exactly what "software repairs" the OP is wanting to carry out. Given good advice on that mater they may not be tempted to install any more of these types of, likely totally unnecessary, 'magic cure-all' programs apparently loaded with the sort of crapware that provokes AVAST to report it as a PUP.

Use Uncheckyhttps://unchecky.com/

Whilst Unchecky is quite good for preventing unwanted program installs on 'free' programs, what it is really good for is preventing things like Google installs on Avast, Avast installs on CCleaner, on what otherwise are completely reputable programs, programs you might not think you'd have issues.

It's free and clean.

That is why chromium 74 will halt automatic installs.
Potentially unwanted in many cases means unwanted.
When downloading, inform yourself or get yourself informed, think twice before you leap (download).
