Did that thanks
But ads keep coming back, box unchecked itself.
Nothing personal !,
but when ads pop up on a program designed to protect against malware well that sounds just like malware.
I consider Adware to be Malware.
I am fed up with marketing in all forms, if I want something I will find it myself.
What I don't need is more pop ups.
Thank you very much for your help.

You can disable the ads in the paid versions: Avast GUI -> Settings -> Personal Privacy
W8.1 [x64] - Avast Free AV 23.3.8047.BC [UI.757] - Firefox ESR 102.9 [NS/uBO/PB] - Thunderbird 102.9.1
Avast-Tools: Secure Browser 109.0 - Cleanup 23.1 - SecureLine 5.18 - DriverUpdater 23.1 - CCleaner 6.01

OK Now I am Concerned.
The scanner was a flat line with points with a NEXT Box and then a pop up,.....now it is back to a circle during smart scan.
No ads now but I already changed settings as you both pointed out.
This started when I forwarded a Amazon return label to my wife at work.
Now her work printer is malfunctioning.
I tried to download / print the label and nothing happened.

Does the green progress line with Next box sound like Avast ???
Thanks.

Yes, it's the new look of smart-scan.
