Avast Free Antivirus Updates
« on: April 14, 2019, 06:18:59 PM »
Hello & I would like to have some idea of when updating of cyber security products will discontinue as far as the Windows 7 operating systems.  I know that Microsoft will discontinue extended support in January, 2020.
Thanks for any information you could provide me.

Seems to become a severe proplem to you. I mean, you have time enough to decide, which os you will install instead of W7. As you can see in my sig, I'm always gathering experiences from XP to W10.
Desktops: AMD LE1620, W7 ult SP1 [x86] | IP-4, XP pro SP3[x86] | Intel Celeron, W7 ult SP1 [x86] | AMD-Athlon 1800+, XP pro SP3, [x86] in WL |
Laptops:   HP G72 , W10 Home [x64]  v22H2 (Build 19045.2728) | Acer Aspire ES1-131, W10 Home [x64] v1511 (Build 10586.1106)|
Firefox ESR [AOS,NS,uBO,uMatrix],Thunderbird,MCShield,CCleaner,Defraggler,MBAM Free,MBAE, Avast Free Antivirus|

Do you have an answer to my question or is it that no one knows or has any idea?

Only Avast can say when support for Windows 7 will occur.

We users can only take notice of the continued support for winXP many, many years after Microsoft dropped support.  Official support for XP/Vista in the form of Avast has only officially ended this year, the last program version for XP/Vista is avast 18.8  see, https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=220639.0 to get some idea of just how long after Microsoft drop support.

Even then XP/Vista users on 18.8 can still get virus definition updates, so there is still limited support after that deadline.  Mentioned in the topic link that I gave, there may also be the possibility of some future program updates for avast 18 (the last supported program version).

So, based on the above, the end of support for windows 7 by avast is likely to be some reasonable time in the future.
