You can't. You can start with a new user name but that means you start fresh.

That changes the display name not the user name.

Since 2014, the username is your email.

Yes, but that isn't used/displayed in the forums (logon/validation only), that is the Display Name.

What "-midnight" is talking about is the user name:
How can I change it?  I don't know why I chose -midnight.

Thank you in advance for any replies

She is inadvertently talking about the Display Name.

As Secondmineboy mention:
How can I change it?  I don't know why I chose -midnight.
<snip>
U can change it under Profile>User account

My guess, is he has interpreted (correctly) what -midnight wants as changing what is displayed alongside posts.

Well, I usually don't dare to guess what she means, so I answer her questions to the point. ;)

I don't want to create a new account so I'll just keep the user name I have now.  I still don't understand why I can't change it.  Guess it doesn't really matter.

EDIT

You can change it "Profile/Account Settings".

As already stated, you can change the display name but, you can't change the user name.

If you had understood the first post correctly (How can I change it?  I don't know why I chose -midnight) you would have known it was the displayed name which she intended to change.
