Remove NTFS-rights on files for Win XP
« on: August 08, 2006, 01:31:04 PM »
Hi malware fighters,

Some have this idea: Demolish NTFS-rights from files! :) (I assume that a lot of people use NTFS). It is also a decent method for nasty spyware that cannot be killed in some other way. Remove NTFS rights, and often spyware has been killed permanently.
Any to comment?

NTFS is far more secure than fat.
Removing NTFS permissions is a real bad idea.
Using NTFS permissions in a proper way is a much better thing to do.

Hello Eddy,

But I know this practice is coming in more and more to evade the Windows Validation Assistant findings. 27% of Windows Commercial Computers in the Netherlands is not having a legit XP version, some use a batchtool to get rid of the notification, until MS moves it to another process or more towards the kernel.. I think this practice is wrong, and this should not be condoned, but what about malware, or are other methods to be preferred? What is the best way?
