Hi.  After over a year of working perfectly, my scan in-progress message box no longer responds. It won't appear at all before or during my daily scheduled scans (or even after the day scan has finished), but does pop up to alert me as expected on a same-day basis, or if I test it by running any of your pre-fab (i.e., Smart Scan), same-day scans.  Also, even though the popup box never appears for my customized T-Scan -- never announces my daily scheduled scan -- the Avast Notifications window indicates without fail that I've been notified of something.  I tried fixing the message box program by using the UI Fix system, but to no avail.  I also tried the Repair tool available through my Windows 10 Control Panel (Avast, uninstall, Repair), but that didn't work either.  Re-installing Avast (Avast clear.exe) didn't make any difference.  I've set my scheduled scan to run daily at 8:28 a.m., and found that it works only if I start my laptop at 8:05 a.m. each day, which has been an inconvenient, but reliable procedure, with scan and message box both performing on time and flawlessly -- until your recent update. I've tried turning on my laptop at new times (8:08 a.m., 8:10 a.m), but the box still won't appear.  I'm pleased that the scan itself works (it's, of course, my priority), but I count on the message box to keep me informed as to my scan's progress.

Any solutions?  I appreciate your work, and whatever help you can provide me.

Thanks.

Just a question as to why you run scheduled daily scans ???
Once you know your system is clean, scans aren't really needed since anything that changes or is added is check by Avast.

Hey, Bob.  Answer: Mostly because I'm biting into a whole household's network, on their invitation and for free, so I want to provide at least the most obvious forms of antivirus security.

Thanks again for your interest.  Happy day, week, etc., to you, Bob.

In-Progress Scan Message Box Won't Respond
« Reply #3 on: May 04, 2019, 09:15:39 PM »
Hi, everyone.  Any proposed solutions yet for my message box problem? Could it be a timing-based issue, interference with Windows 10 security (and its notification system), something related to UI Avast settings, etc.?

Sorry.  Thanks, though.

P.S. If my message box malfunction isn't an indication of additional, more significant flaws, then please ignore my query.  (Although, I guess my low response rate is awfully close to "ignore." Hmmm.  Oh well.) --j

It has  nothing to do with ignoring but probably not having an answer for you.
Are you waking the system up from sleep or is it being restarted after it was shut off ???

Hi Janet, you probably won't find many helpers running scheduled scans with a resident AV (basically useless).

To Bob:

Thanks for replying. My answer: I'm restarting the machine in the a.m. after it has been off all night.

To Asyn:

Thanks for your comment, and for sharing your insight.  Why are scheduled scans useless?  Why are they available?  I'm not doubting you, but am really just asking.  Thanks.  Oh, also: What is a resident AV system?  Is it an AV system, probably free, used in a home environment rather than by a business?

Don't feel obliged to answer if you're busy, but I'm interested nonetheless.  ?

Thanks much.

With a resident (on-access) scanner the need for on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part dormant/inert files are being scanned, the other active files are going to be scanned by the resident shields when they are activated.

Asyn + David R.

Thanks for answering my questions.  Asyn: I'll check out your Wikipedia link after I post this reply.  David: I appreciate the comprehensiveness and clarity of your response.

Thanks again to both of you.  Nonetheless, I'll continue to hope for an In-Progress popup correction (or iteration reversal -?), at least for a little while.  (Bob?)

Happy afternoon, night, week, etc., to all of you.

You're welcome.

I agree if you are going to do an on-demand scan, a progress popup is very useful.
