PDF Conversion

Hi.  I'm new to Avast.  I just installed it and now all of my PDF files are converted to Avast html extensions.  I can't figure out which setting I'm supposed to change.

Avast doesn't change file types.
What operating system What other Security related programs are installed

That certainly hasn't happened on any of my systems that have Avast installed.

Can you show what you mean by all of my PDF files are converted to Avast html extensions  ?

I don't know what an avast html extension is, a file is either a .pdf or a .html file extension. 
Do you actually mean, when you click to open a pdf file that it is being opened by Avast ?
By Avast, I'm thinking you mean opened by the Avast Secure Browser.

If I click on a pdf link in an internet browser, first it is opened by the browser (Firefox in my case), you can check your file associations for .pdf files to see what the default viewer is.

My pdf files are opened, because of my settings, in the Chrome browser.

If I'm in the browser I let them open there and only download if I want to retain a copy.

My suspicion lies with a browser opening the .pdf files and why I asked questions of the OP.  For instance if the user had the Avast Secure Browser (chromium based) perhaps that is what they mean, but we really need more information.

An additional point to consider:  Don't believe ASB is installed along with Avast as was once the case.  So you'd need to download and install ASB alongside Avast.

I think that we need a lot more detailed information from bmartin as we are pretty much clutching at straws otherwise.

My pdf documents are labelled Avast html document on the file details, but are called pdf when referred to by other programs, and open as pdfs to look at.   
Right-clicking on the file details in the folder, I opened the "properties" at the bottom of the menu.
Under the General tab, I clicked the "Change" box , and chose Adobe from the drop-down list
All the files in the folder then changed to Adobe Acrobat Document as a label - still not "pdf" as I would have expected [the way they used to be pdf].
I think it probably doesn't matter much either way - it just seems that someone - Microsoft? - has decided to drop the pdf label, and call the documents by your chosen "file opening program".
Another thing that someone couldn't just leave as familiar to the computer user. Hey ho.

yep, just set up Avast - same problem, AVG does the same thing, and I either can't open them, or it takes ages.  Right pain.  Thank you to the person who advised changing in 'properties' - works a treat!
