Embarrassing Moment
« on: May 31, 2019, 03:29:03 AM »
All that nagging and complaining I even got all my money back and here I am.

Have you ever felt so embarrass about something you've done, something that you really haven't thought through completely and you just  flew off the handle and yet, you  humbled yourself enough to backpedal and try to fix that  hoping the one that you complained to will understand? Well.. here I am to say I really didn't though through my decision of leaving avast.. until I started searching for alternatives.

I can only think of 2 reasons why I'm back..

1. I have used avast Pro for darn 20 years or so and it really grew on me, nothing else seems and feels the same, and for the most part I really didn't have any problems

2. I use Outpost Firewall Pro and I'm not going to get rid of it, its truly phenomenal firewall at least for now while I'm still on Windows 7, most, at least the better AV aren't compatible with Outpost and avast worked always and still does great in combination with Outpost.

So! I have renewed my expired license again and now I'm in good hands.

I'm sure there will be some moments of aggravation here and there, nothing its flawless but I'm sure when that time comes I will handle it better  ;D ;)

Sorry guys for the nonsense talk I gave earlier you don't realize until is gone how great avast software is  :)

I still use Outpost Firewall Pro on my XP Pro system, even though it is no longer updated (sold) or available as a stand alone firewall.  It still regularly alerts to changes on Anti-leak, System Guard and Application Guard and you can still make custom rules (if that is what you are into).

Often you don't know what you have until you try to replace it.

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Yes OF is still the best when comes to leak detection and if you like me that need to know every move any application makes and what comes in and goes out there is nothing like it.

Thankfully firewall doesn't need updating really, so it will be good for as long as is compatible with OS and unfortunately even the latest I have 9.3 which supposedly was compatible with Windows 10 does not work well but I'm with windows 7 and not planing on upgrading even after 2020.

This is just an entertaining info  :)

From my testings, if I had to chose next runner up for antivirus , it would be NOD32, it came closes to my liking. It has some very interesting configurable settings and its surprisingly light on system but again, nothing is flawless and NOD32 is no exception.

Beside the fact that it doesn't get along with Outpost FP, it does work, but not as it should, it has very weird issue with GUI. If your secondary storage is in sleep mode which in my case I have ton of mechanical drives that sleep most of the time until needed, every time you insert USB device to a hub or directly to USB port or you bring NOD32 GUI either via desktop or tray icon, it would wake all drives and there is nothing you can do about it.

Speaking with  admin and some of the knowledgeable members, this could be either by design or there is issue with GUI, because no settings can fix that.

Now! speaking of AV that I wouldn't look at it again? Trend Micro AV...wholly molly, that thing is so heavy on your system that when I installed on my workstation which is no joke 128GB of 2400MHz memory and 6950X at 4.5Ghz that thing made my system crawl   ;D
