Full System Scan Problem:
« on: June 14, 2019, 06:05:25 PM »
After the May program update, I reported a minor problem I had in running a full system scan in another thread. The problem was as follows: clicking on 'Scan Now - Full Virus Scan' resulted in the scan apparently completing immediately and finding no problems.  Obviously the scan had not actually run - to rectify the problem, clicking 'Done' and then 'Scan Now - Full Virus Scan' a second time worked until the next occasion I required to run a full system scan.  Asyn suggested running 'Menu' > 'Troubleshooting' > 'Repair App' and this resolved the problem until today (Friday 14 June 2019) when I tried my regular Friday full system scan.  The problem returned but this time, Asyn's suggestion did not rectify the situation.  I have not attempted uninstalling and reinstalling the program, I would prefer to avoid that hassle if possible

This is not a major issue for me as the workaround is quite straightforward (click 'Done' and then 'Scan Now - Full Virus Scan' but obviously there is something wrong and I wonder what could be causing this to happen.  Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

Has been reported here:  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=227533.0
yes, but on the link petr.kolacek indicates that the problem was fixed on June 4
that being said, the problem reappeared on June 13 (after windows update ?) even for those whose problem was resolved 10 days ago.
French guy also reported this issue https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=227773.0
Maybe a clean install will do the job (I hope) , but it seems there's still something wrong with avast. :-\

The full scan is now working again after failing last friday.
Avast does seem a bit flaky and not being that computer literate I am loathe to do a full clean as I have never used the windows safe mode so don't know what to expect visually when using it . I am happy to use the work around but am curious as to why this bizarre problem has reared its ugly head.

The full system scan worked right away today (Friday 21 June 2019) on my regular Friday run.  The previous Friday scan did not run until I used the 'click Done' and click 'Full System Scan' once more workaround.  However I decided not to try another 'Repair' or to do a clean reinstall of Avast Free so was half expecting to have to do the workaround again today.  There was no need for that so that aspect of Avast seems to be working normally again but I did experience another minor glitch regarding the 'Software Updater'.

Normally, before I run a 'Full System Scan', I run the 'Software Updater' and the 'WIFI Inspector':  I prefer to use the 'Software Updater' in manual mode (in fact, if I am aware of program updates, I use the the programs' own update facilities).  Today the 'Software Updater' behaved strangely: it showed two programs required updates namely 'Thunderbird' and 'Firefox'.  I selected 'Firefox' first and the update process started normally - I thought it had completed as the 'Firefox' line disappeared leaving the 'Thunderbird' line but no button to start its update.  Restarting 'Software Updater' resolved the issue by restoring the 'Firefox' line and allowing 'Firefox' to complete its update and making the button for the 'Thunderbird' update available once more.  The updates then both completed correctly.
