hi
further checking has brought me no closer to a solution .    the VPN tunnell & AV will work independently of ea other but when both are active  the AV seems to block inbound mail mail server to PC & out bound  mail with this error message An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect
greeting:   Cannot connect to SMTP server 116.250.255.62 (116.250.255.62:587), connect error 10060.
hope someone can sort a solution for me
 thanks lyle

10060 is a timeout error. Communication not happening in a timely manner.
Don't know if extending the settings would help.

I am using the free version on a standard wired fibre connection. Everything works fine if I switch off Avast Mail and Avast web shield. If I have them switched on then email either does not download or  takes ages. Same happens with web pages sometimes. The behaviour is rather inconsistent. This all happened very recently presumably with the last update. Not ideal to have to switch off some of the protection.

hi
the mail server is being blocked by either AV or VPN if both are active  , but will work with either independently
