avast email news - bluekeep
« on: July 01, 2019, 06:43:50 PM »
I got an email claiming to be from news@emails.avast.com which had a teaser about the NSA wanting millions of Windows machines to be updated to protect from the Bluekeep virus. It offered a link to click to view more.

Naturally, I did not click the link and instead went to Avast.com to see if there are any mention of it. There is nothing.

Was this a legit email or a clever attempt to get me to click on a link to virusdom?

Thanks for this link, I too have used it to update my XP Pro system.

EDIT:  This is actually an old 20/6/2019 Avast blog entry and the MS Update is also old, I actually downloaded it on 15/06/2019 - keep downloads as backups.  On checking it I found the same download but with (1) tagged on to the end of the .exe file, it would appear to be a duplicate file name.

I wondered if perhaps it had been updated and ran it again anyway and the OS after confirmation ran it any way (it reported success) and I rebooted.
