 :)  Hi again :

Been watching the Angels - Yankees game ; while at
www.ewido.net/en , did you click on either of the
    "Download" tabs ?

P.S. Thought it would be highly unlikely you would know
what "P2P" was ; it's what the younger generation uses
to download music, etc, most of it probably illegal .

I would appreciate it if you answered the question I asked before back in reply #10, was the specified file named, if so what was it ?

Personally I think you should download the latest version of avast and save it on your hard disk. Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save that too.

Since you previously said there is no entry for avast! Antivirus (please check and confirm again) then your previous install didn't complete successfully.

1. Uninstall, using add remove programs if possible (if not step 2.),reboot.
2. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot.
3. Install avast!, using the latest version, reboot.

I would suggest you do the works as I suggested including the uninstall utility as step 2.

Yes everything including the log will be removed, if you specifically want to save that information you can export the log, select which one you wish to export (it becomes a text file), File, Export Current List. See image.

 :)  Hi 60 :

I do not know about the others helping, but when you say
"update", I do not know if your are speaking of a PROGRAM
update ( the VERSION number, like 4.7.871 ) or a
DEFINITION FILE update, mostly known as a "VPS", like
    "0632-2" or "0633-0" !?
Try to be more specific about your use of "update" in
     future posts .
If you were closer, I would recommend I pay you a visit,
but 250 miles is too far .

Looks like a Bit Defender file is causing problems; have you
completely removed that program ? The best way to find
out would be to click "Search", then "All files and folders",
enter the search "term" "Bitdefender" and "Delete" all
     it finds.

Spiritsongs, I did an uninstall of Avast and then reinstalled it.  Per as David R asked. There is nothing on my machine with bitdefender unless it is hiding.  At this point anything is possible. Spiritsongs.  I had it in Fav. delete it.  What I have is 4.7 Home edition   File version VPS 0633-0.  No I did not install Ewido, just ran the test.. Any other ideas?  Thank you 60!

BitDefender file !?
« Reply #41 on: August 14, 2006, 10:32:45 PM »
 :)  Hi 60 :

Perhaps there is a BitDefender file "hiding"; have you
configured your computer to "Show hidden files and
folders" ? If not, go to "Folder Options" ( it is either
accessed from "Tools" or in the "Control Panel" ), click
"View", then go down the list and check "Show hidden
files and folders", restart the computer, then use the
"Search" routine I mentioned earlier to see if it "appears".

If that does not "work", try clicking "All Programs", then
    "Accessories", then "System Tools", then "Disk Cleanup";
after it gets done "analyzing", the listing at the top most
likely says : "Downloaded Program Files". If it shows more
than zero, check its box, then click "ok".

I did as you said.
Nothing is there with bitdefender!   Also went to scan disc and the first one was empty. But on temporary IE files 1,300KB.  60!

Quote from: 60!
Tech, I am trying to get avast fixed.  It all started Saturday nite late.  Update came on, and installed it self as usual.
Do you remember if it was a program update or just a virus database update?

Quote from: 60!
No, problem I thought?  Rebooted etc
Strange... seems a program update...

Quote from: 60!
Then in a few it send up a red flag and says an error has occurred while attempting to update?
Sorry asking the 1000th time, do you use a firewall? Are you with Windows XP?

Quote from: 60!
So, someone told me to use reapir wizard for avast. I did.  Ok, well it didnt work either still the red flag?
When? When you logon? Or at any time?
Can you manually update?
How do you connect the Internet (dial-up or permanent connection)?

Quote from: 60!
So DavidR, suggested I uninstall avast and reinstall.  I did.  Right I get the darn Red flag again! At the moment Iam using 4.7 home edition VPS file version 0633-0.  Summary information  Last encountered error,The system cannot find the file specified.  total time: 2.31. So, if you could possible give Me some ideas as what to do next.  I dont know if this machine is even safe to use?  Thank you 60!
You can download servers.def from here: http://download1.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def
Save it to C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\setup folder. Overwrite the file there...
Start the update again.

 :)  Hi 60 :

You do not by any chance have a program called
"Brilliant Digital(s)" or "Bullguard" on your computer ?
