Avast free activation question
« on: July 19, 2019, 10:01:19 AM »
Hello. I have 14 days left on my Avast free and I cannot get it to renew its licence. In the subscripion tab when I press renew I cannot select the free version. I close the window and it offers the trial. No options to select free there either. Under my licences it just says "something went wrong".

Will the program take care of this itself or will the program become inert?

Its a bit hard to understand. On one computer I have 80 days left. It will take care of this by itself then?

I now updated the program. The licence works again but I can still not activate. I have 15 days left. The guide does not work. Can I only do this with 10 days left or is it done automatically?

Quote from avast info:

-Newer versions of Avast Free Antivirus will no longer ask you to register,
-older versions will keep working even after they've "expired".

So just wait and see

Thank you for your help but this system is awful. I cannot believe they are still doing it with the free version. We have to sit and wait for our protection to become inoperable...

Does not work. Maybe its because I have 15 days left?

Hi and thanks for your help!

I have not gotten that popup yet. I have tried to follow this guide but it will not let me select the free option.

I have 15 days left. You wrote to another user underneath your video that they had to wait until they had 5 days left? Do you think it will work then?

From memory on my last renewal, the first Reminder I got was at 12 days out, at that point you should have the ability (changes available in the UI) to be able to renew your avast free license.

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Thank you for your help. I suppose I will have to wait a while then.

Further digging points to this beeing a problem back in april, as per https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=226506.0. A fix was appearntly rolled out that did not work for everyone.

To Pondus and bob3160: I appreciate your help but your solutions will not work if there is a bug on Avasts end. This would have been nice to know.

I will report back when I have -12 days left.

So it happened at 12 days left. I got the https://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=226506.0;attach=207112;image and it let me select the free option. I had to close one offer after the first box with the red "X". My licence is renewed.

I would like to ask Avast to remove this licence nonsense from the free version. It serves no other purpose than to confuse users like myself and spam us with your offers. (Avast is full of these already.)

Thanks to all that helped me. This concludes the topic.

The "confusion" was the reason I created the video so that you would be able to navigate past the 'traps'.
