browser will still show history from taskbar
« on: July 23, 2019, 10:52:34 PM »
Greetings,

I encountered a problem on W7 64 bit using the avast browser. I can delete history using the Privacy cleaner. However, sometimes parts of the recent browser history will still show on the avast icon at the taskbar. Right click on the avast icon and it appears under "most visited" or "recently closed." See attached image as an example.

It still appears even after restarting the computer and running the privacy cleaner again. The only way to remove it each time is to use CCleaner. It's not a big deal but perhaps someone else has experienced this too?

Hey RJ_1, could you provide your Diagnostic information (Settings icon at the top-right > Help and About Avast Secure Browser > About Avast Secure Browser > Diagnostic Information) so we can investigate this further?

Hello Gabriel,

Here's the diagnostic information. By the way, I forgot to mention that any browsing history still seen under "recently closed" or "most visited" from the browser taskbar icon can be removed by right clicking on the item and selecting "remove from this list." That or CCleaner gets rid of it. Again it's not a big deal unless you're on a shared computer.

Hey RJ,

I've run a few tests and haven't been able to replicate this issue. Could you try a clean install of the browser and see if the problem persists after that?

Download the installer from here, https://www.avast.com/en-us/secure-browser
Download the Secure Browser Removal tool from here, https://download.avastbrowser.com/avast_secure_browser_uninstall.exe
Save your Bookmarks via the Book Marks Manager if you have custom bookmarks so you can import them when you re-install.
Uninstall Secure Browser via Programs and Features - Reboot
Run the removal tool, reboot, run the installer import your favorites if you saved them.

Hello Gabriel,

I did a clean install (following bob3160's post above, thank you) but unfortunately the problem persists. I visited Yahoo and Etsy several times and refreshed the pages while there. Then I set the Privacy cleaner range to "all time" and the history still appears at the taskbar icon even after reopening the browser. See attached pic under "most visited."

We just released the 75.1 version of the browser https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=228521.0 so could you try updating to that and trying again. If it is still an issue I will discuss this with the developers.

Hello Gabriel,

I updated to the latest version but regrettably the issue is still present. I noticed when I run CCleaner to clear the taskbar "most visited"/"recently closed" items that it's deleting files from ""C\User\Administrator\Appdata\local\microsoft\windows\webcache\" - perhaps Windows is logging web history related stuff there?

Anyways, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to try and help (and bob3160 for the helpful directions too). I really do appreciate it.

Regards,
RJ
