Virus in installer.exe file - false positive?
« on: August 01, 2019, 09:56:08 AM »
Hi,

Forgive me in advance -  I'm not particularly virus-savvy, and I'm posting this just to make sure I don't do something stupid. Basically, a trusted app on my PC that I've used for a long time initiated an update this morning, but Avast found an IDP.ALEXA.51 virus in the installer.exe file and quarantined it. A quick search would seem to indicate that this virus has historically shown up in a lot of 'false positives,' but I also got the impression that I shouldn't just assume that this is the case.

Basically, I was wondering if you good people would be able to recommend my best course of action from here? I thought just re-installing the app would work, but I keep getting error messages about the missing file.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

Test the file at VT (https://www.virustotal.com) and post the link to the result here.
