Hi vitascape,

Yes they are required to run in "basic mode". Avast remediation exe is a service that is monitoring if any error or bug or crash happens to Avast, if that happen, this will enter in action and tries to repair the issue by itself. Avast Service is the normal antivirus service that all vendors required and have its own core services in order to run the product. Antivirus engine server is in here to make scans on cloud and detect more quicker threats.

I hope that i answered your questions correctly mate. If anyone thinks or knows that i´m wrong, please help me explain or correct myself :)

Kind Regards,

Actually, Avast Remediation (aka wsc_proxy.exe) is the process that registers Avast into Windows Security Center and listens for commands from it - such as to enable/disable based on user requests via the security center. This process is using higher protection from the system - the so-called Protected Antimalware Service.
