If not, does anyone know a good, free spyware remover like avast! ?

As far as I know Avast doesn't detect and remove spyware.

I use Ad-Aware SE
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html

and Spybot Search & Destroy  http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html

They are both free, and recommended by other users of Avast.

I also scan weekly with Ewido
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
(free after trial period) for trojans.

I am sure others in this forum will direct you to more freebies.

avast does detect some spyware and it is adding more detections. However, it isn't a specialist anti-spyware program the ones mentioned by roro are freeware and bring and extrat level to your security. another to consider is Spywareblaster Don't install this until you are clean.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Well... some of them, yes... anyway, avast is an antivirus and not an antispyware...

Besides Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Ewido
I can sugget:
1. a-squared
2. Spyware Terminator
3. Advanced WindowsCare (seems to have a very good imunization feature)

you may add to: Arovax antispyware; Doctor Alex; SuperAntispyware, Bazooka and Spydefense. They are all freewares. Good luck. Best.

For me:
Arovax antispyware: is under 'development' and it's not mature yet. Poor detection.
SuperAntispyware: it's a good one, but without resident and the virus scanning of Spyware Terminator.
Bazooka: very limited...

Spydefense and Doctor Alex: don't know.
Doctor Alex was listed on this page because of concerns with the lack of information about the company and its privacy practices, as well as the false use of TRUSTe seal on the Doctor Alex web site. In December 2005, the vendor behind this application took steps to address all of our concerns. Thus, we can no longer consider Doctor Alex to be "rogue/suspect" anti-spyware.
Spydefense is not listed  :o
Is it Spyware Defense of  spywaredefense.com: too much false positives. Work as goad to purchase; dubious corporation associations  :(

Look, ewido and a-squared are more than antispyware but trojan removers.

OK. You're almost right. But for Doctor Alex because I have read at spywarewarrior site that  they removed  from the black list. Thus, It is delisted there. You can read the note about it there. I have heard it has a big antispyware basis and now it's recommended. Best.
