A couple of days ago, my Avast anti virus put up an alert about IDP.GENERIC - FLASHPLAYERINSTALLER.EXE may saying it may be infected and to put it in the virus chest.

Some research has suggested that this is a false positive. Is this true?

I tried restoring the F/P EXE, but Avast would neither allow me to restore it or restore and add exception.

Today, my PC did some Windows updates. At the end, a pop up appeared from Acer, the manufacturer of my pc telling me to install the latest version of Flash Player. This is the first time in several years of owning this pc that I have ever seen this pop up. Has it appeared because the F/Player exe is in the Virus Chest and would normally have allowed the latest F/Player version to install automatically.

How should I rectify this situation? I am grateful for any advice, and please note that I don't know a lot about PCs.
