If I may ask, what improvements the current version offers , compared to V7 ? And what bugs have been fixed, I do not see any (yet)

There would be to many changes to list between version 7 and the current 19.8, I'm not sure if version 7 is even supported still :-\

Too much water has passed under that bridge for anyone (avast user) to even hazard a guess as most either won't have even used avast 7 and those that have it is too far in the past to remember details.

Suffice to say much has changed to try and keep pace with changing malware developments.

You won't see anything yet if you are referring to avast 7 as that is no longer supported, yes it is getting virus definitions, but no bug fixes/program updates.

Hello DaviR,

Theoretically, you are right.

However, V7 is perceived on the internet as the best version ever of Avast! A pure antivirus, no spam, no advertising ,no push to buy other products, individual shields ...
Except Behavior shield which may have improved, the other shields are exclusively based on definitions, so as long as AVAST will release definition for this version, I see it as a perfectly viable option for somebody looking for a pure antivirus, no bells and whistles ...

On the internet you'll also find people expounding the virtues of Windows XP and many other totally outdated programs.
I happened to have liked the UI of that version but, like all things, things change and so has Avast.
That outdated version is no longer available unless it's dug out of the archives and if installed will sooner or later wind up being updated to the current version.

Perception is a wonderful thing as are searches on the internet as they often return old outdated or incomplete information.

Avast has effectively closed a number of OS exploits/vulnerabilities even for XP when official MS support and Avast support had ended for XP/Vista.  Win7 is next in line for end of support by MS, but will still have some support by Avast, but for how long I don't know.  At that point VPS support could well end after that, I as an avast user don't know any details.

If it is your perception that avast 7 is just fine then you are entitled to that as it is your system and your choice.  I'm not trying to change your mind, just give you some more information.
