Please, activate logging in WebShield:
1. Edit <avast>\data\avast4.ini file
2. Find the section [WebScanner]
3. Add the line:
    EnableLogging=1
4. Restart Web Shield in XP (terminate and start again) or whole PC in case of Win98
5. Browse (trying to access some webpages)

The log file are <avast>\data\log\ashwebsv.log and ashwebsv.ws.
They would be accessible when WebShield is terminated again.
Post them here or send by mail to rypacek@asw.cz

After that, disable the logging to avoid a big log file.

I too began having problems with any browser but am receiving "The connection was reset" errors on any "http" sites.  If I go to an "https" site everything was OK.

I found that either terminating WebShield or removing the 80 from "Redirected HTTP port(s)" field it worked also.

I have created a log such as rypace asked for from you and maybe will help.

Connection instability?
Can you post a screenshot of the error message?
Do you have any other antivirus, security program, etc., installed in this computer?

WebShield does not scan https traffic... either if you remove port 80 from scanning is the same as disable WebShield...
Can you generate the log file as posted before?

Hi Tech, ;)
I dont think that this is problem coused by other antivirus, security program, etc..I had this problem with the browser yesterday too, but now it's gone, no problemo, nada. Before the problem start i scaned with Ewido and it found this Downloader.Adload.ch and i deleted it, and after that i scaned with Ad Aware it didnt find anything, so i run CCleaner and scan with Avast. The message that i was receiving was "The connection was reset while loading the page" or something like that, also it was written to check the conection wich was ok and enabled, and also to check if i use firewall is the Firefox permited to conect to internet.Exept that there was unusual high activity with the firewall and that i was not able to browse in periods of few minutes to about 30 minutes.I did not do any changes and now the browser is working fine with no problems. ??? any idea what happend  :P

WebShield does not scan https traffic... either if you remove port 80 from scanning is the same as disable WebShield...
Can you generate the log file as posted before?

I have exactly the same problem as described here (thats why i was searching this forum). On acces webshield scanner on: no internet.
Turning it off makes my internet work fine!

As you said, it does not scan https sites. And indeed; when i turn the on acces webshield on, not any website works, EXCEPT the https websites.
I have no idea what the problem is here...maybe some firewall from a router?

But, did you activate logging in WebShield as I've posted before?
Did WebShield work at least one time in your computer?
Do you use any annonimizer (proxy) application?

WebShield does not scan https because the traffic is encrypted and avast cannot know the encryption... otherwise, anybody will know it and steal your bank data  8)

What do you mean by " Activate logging in Webshield" If its starting the webshield services : Yes, I already done that and When I started the service, I Can't browse the Http at all. :-[

Did WebShield work at least one time in your computer?
How would I notice it ? I Can't use my browser at all......

Do you use any annonimizer (proxy) application?
what is that ? Can you give me an example, because I'm not an advanced computer user

What do you mean by " Activate logging in Webshield" If its starting the webshield services : Yes, I already done that and When I started the service, I Can't browse the Http at all.
I mean logging not the service start  ::)
I've posted the method:

Please, activate logging in WebShield:

1. Edit <avast>\data\avast4.ini file
2. Find the section [WebScanner]
3. Add the line:
 EnableLogging=1

How would I notice it ? I Can't use my browser at all......
So it never worked... WebShield never worked...

what is that ? Can you give me an example, because I'm not an advanced computer user
