Avast engine server
« on: October 08, 2019, 12:06:13 AM »
Hi. So, i have latest avast free antivirus version and few hours ago i've noticed that Avast Engine Server (AswEngSrv.exe) process is not showing anymore in task manager since yesterday. Is it normal? Anyone else experienced it as well?

There have been some changed in this area for avast 19.4 AswEngSrv.exe is the file system shield, but it is meant to be running sandboxed so I don't know if this is why you don't see it in the task manager.

See https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=226462.0 What's New.

As far as I'm aware that hasn't changed, see https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=228273.0 Release notes and that doesn't appear to have changed since Avast 19.4.

It isn't showing in my Win10 Task Manager with the latest version of avast 19.8 either.

I'm very sensitive even for smallest changes in my task manager which means I keep checking it everytime on startup and I noticed "aswEngSrv.exe" process stopped launching since yesterday. I even did a clear reinstall without any result of bringing it back. I also noticed that when I open UI by Avast icon from taskbar, two more AvastUI.exe processes are launching. When I close the window, one process stays. It disappears only when I shutdown pc. It's happening in version 19.8, didn't noticed that in previous.

The UI is yet another area that has changed, I frequently see two instances running (well when I happen to check the task manager (after a question such as this).

Generally I don't go looking for issues unless I'm actually experiencing a problem.  I don't have the task manager open all of the time so I won't see changes like this.

Hi Pierogi,
it is on purpose, we found a bug in telemetry system and decided to fix it in 19.9 upcoming version.
