Avast 14.2 not updating virus definitions ...
« on: October 12, 2019, 12:18:36 AM »
Hello,

Since the latest hot fix on Avast 14.2, I have not been able to get a virus definition update.  When I click on update it goes through the update, but always shows 19100902.  Knowing that it's now 191011xx, I would think the virus definition have been updated.  Is this a bug?

Thanks,

Dennis

Still the mess.....What happens ? Is it normal ? Ok there are still minor updates every 3mn but the major one is the 19100902 and we are at 19101306-stream....Still don't understand how it works....

There are streaming updates every 5-10 minutes that do not change the version number but you should still see an update about once a day for the master VPS update

Hi thanks for fast reply. All the question is there.....If I hit the About button I'm still in 19100902.
And in the defs file we can see each day the master VPS like 19101000 remain in stream and it's the same for 19101100, 19101200 and 19101300 now....like on the photo above.

So i don't think it's normal....

Please have a look on the capture of my defs file with my precedent post, you will see what i mean.

- Go/ordinateur/Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Avast/vps9/Defs

Thanks so much!
What I see is one base file 19100902 dated Oct 09 followed by 22 _stream files. My about shows 10100902. Not sure if it is correct in the visual but at least I can see multiple stream files and I assume the stream files disappear when the base file is updated.

Thanks for your reply!

Hi Mac !

So what do you think ?

I've uninstall, re install, I'm with Sierra 10.12.6 which fits perfectly mith my macbook pro mid 2012.
I've tried with a fresh install of Mojave and Catalina on a new partition and Avast 14.2 act the same way....
Tried AVG too but no surprise it's the same...

Ok we have a definition base and continuous stream in parallel to complete, but the def file is on the 09/10, so it's a bit so/so for me, but never had a look before into the details of def file, but with the 13 version I ever had the notification of the definition base upgrade....

So normal because there are just minor upgrade, new behavior of the software or there is a real bug ? That is the question...

AVG is same as avast, just different skin.

Sit tight for now, I’ve reported this to the dev team. They are working on an update for some of the other Catalina items and likely this will be fixed soon along with the other items

Hi guillaumelou,

Thank you for putting the pressure on them to work on my initial request for no virus def updates.  I haven't been getting any answers for some reason so I just checked in to see what was going on.  Looks like you finally got them to report this to the develop team.  Let's hope they get this fixed soon.

Thanks again,

Dennis

Hello,
we know about the issue, we are working on fixing it. Streaming updates are working (the mechanism that we use to push new definitions every few minutes), so you are protected.
Kind regards,
