How to remove permanently
« on: October 12, 2019, 08:27:13 PM »
I have been an Avast user for many years. I like the antivirus product, but I do not like the Avast Secure Browser.  :( Every time an Avast update is installed this browser is installed and becomes my default browser. I have tried uninstalling and/or resetting my default browser to what I want it to be. Avast overrides that setting with every update. This should NOT be happening. The Avast installer should ASK before installing the browser and should ALWAYS ASK before overriding your default browser setting. Installing undesired secondary software and overriding a user's default browser setting are both malicious activity. Avast updates are behaving like malware. I have reported this several months ago. This malicious behavior continues. If I cannot prevent this UNWANTED software from INFECTING my computer, I will stop using Avast and stop recommending it to other people. Avast is currently behaving like malware and will be treated as such.  >:(

Auto updates will assume your current settings.
I always use a custom install which means I get to select my options.
I suggest you do a clean install and this time use custom and uncheck the option to make
the Secure Browser your default browser.

Clean install of the Secure Browser:
Maybe it's time for a clean install of the Secure Browser
Download the installer from here, https://www.avast.com/en-us/secure-browser
Download the Secure Browser Removal tool from here, https://download.avastbrowser.com/avast_secure_browser_uninstall.exe
Save your Bookmarks via the Book Marks Manager if you have custom bookmarks so you can import them when you re-install.
Uninstall Secure Browser via Programs and Features - Reboot
Run the removal tool, reboot, run the installer import your favorites if you saved them.
A video to help with the installation: https://youtu.be/r_VLA0HMLQM
Report back if that's solved the problem or not.
