It's definitely worth having with Windows versions prior to Windows 10. Personally, I put an old sock over my Windows 7 Logitech webcam when not using Skype. I haven't found any bugs in that sock yet but I do wash it now and again, just in case.
Just make sure there aren't any holes in the sock and, don't use one made of sheer nylon. :)

I'm a heavyweight wool sock man.  ;D

A thick sock is essential for guaranteed privacy.  I notice that the Blue spot disappears after a while.  Knowing that considerably reduces the irritation factor.

I am getting used to the 'adverts' but I am still puzzled by the apparent inability of Avast to distinguish between integral and non-integral webcams. Does it really help Avast to advertise this anomaly?

As I have said before I don't believe it even checks, it is another avast ad to ignore.

If Avast nagware discriminates between computers with integral webcams and computers without integral webcams, that is prima face evidence that webcam checks are performed.

It's Saturday afternoon (yawn) and no Blue Spot has appeared.  The person in the Avast control room who is charged with the immense burden of responsibility for operating The Blue Spot Button must have taken the weekend off.  :-X

It's bad enough having to listen to a dead horse being flogged, but to breath life into a topic because the blue spot hasn't arrived is somewhat strange.

I haven't seen a blue spot on either of my systems since this topic was started. 8)

Are you using a laptop with integral webcam and running Windows 10 Pro (x64) feature updates 1903 or 1909?

Yes (but Home not pro, shouldn't make a difference), if you check my signature also on Windows 10 64bit version 1909.

I have two laptops with built-in webcams.  One is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C50-A-1E6 and the other is a Toshiba Satellite Pro P200 PSPB7E-02800TEN.  Both machines run without any issues on what were clean installations of Windows 10 Pro x64 (now at feature update 1909).  The appearance of the Blue Spot ONLY occurs with thse two devices.  Other devices I operate use external USB connected webcams and are entirely free of Blue Spot.

Even if the webcam detection feature is an inessential, the evidence that it appears to be flawed is not reassuring.  I have been assuming that since it appears able to detect built-in but not external webcams that the feature might already be built in to Avast Free but is not activated as it would be in Avast Premium.  That being the case, I would say that it appears to be flawed.

This has been my rationale from the commencement of this topic.

As mentioned numerous times on these forums, it's a sales pitch to try to sell one of Avast's paid services.
Simply ignore the sales pitch.
