Avast Marketing E-mail Flagged as Phishing by Avast Web Shield
« on: November 20, 2019, 02:20:43 PM »
I'm on macOS, running Avast for Business Managed.

I received an e-mail from "Sean from Avast Business" with the subject "Your business protection trial expires in 21 days"

The body said:

Enjoying Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus Trial? Then make sure you don't lose it. Once it expires, you'll lose the added layers of protection that have been keeping your business safe.

Purchase now and we will give you a special 20% discount.

Clicking on the "Buy Now Save 20%" link, I got a Avast Web Shield pop-up, saying a Phishing attempt had been blocked. The URL was: https://avast-business.intercom-clicks.com/via/e?ob={long ID}

Was this actually phishing, or was it a false positive? If it was phishing, they knew when I signed up for an Avast trial, because that "21 days" number was accurate.

Does Avast's Web Shield flag their own marketing as phishing?

Hi Tchad,

The email you received from Avast (Sean) was not a phishing email and has been identified as a false positive, we apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

We will report this issue and whitelist very soon.

Regards,

Sean
