email not accepting password
« on: August 23, 2006, 11:37:33 AM »
I have just changed my broadband provider and the password they have given me is not accepted on my email (Thunderbird).  It works for access to the net.  I checked with them and they told me all the correct settings which were in, and then said they don't know about Mozilla Thunderbird only Outlook and Outlook Express!   I then contacted Mozilla who had several suggestions all of which I tried but still can't get through, and they then suggested I contact Avast forums as they said there had been some issues with Avast since recent updates.
Can anyone help please?  I haven't been able to use my email program for four days.

Let's just do a very simple test first to see if avast is involved.

Terminate the avast Internet Mail provider and try to access your account with Thunderbird again.

Does the password work with the provider turned off?

If the problem is just the same with the avast Internet Mail provider terminated then the problem is almost certainly nothing to do with avast.

You should seek help from your ISP or the support team for your email service.

Thanks. But if the avast antivirus is uninstalled, all is ok.So the problem must caused by avast.

So the problem must caused by avast.
Or by anything that is blocking avast...
Maybe the firewall, maybe other security program...

I tried to look at the website for 163.com.  It will be no surprise that I could not read it.

I hope I will be forgiven for wondering, since this apparently is a Chinese web site, whether this ISP requires the use of any software (somewhat akin to web accelerators) that places port intercepts similar to those of avast for the mail ports to enable mail interception by the ISP.  If so, then it may be that such intercepts and those of avast do not work well together.

caibhua,

did your Internet Service Provider require you to install any software on your system in order for you to set up your account with them?
