Nice work mauserme.
What worries me same as you are those avast alerts.

Then again leaktests are not all are to be considered.
I have never dared to run qkweb's ones (hope I spelled the nick right since only from my memory) since I don't want no unnecessary alerts from my antimalware progs like avast.
Eicar is the test virus, it should be the only one it reports as malware if it is really not?
Anything else confuses users!!!

But shows avast is on par with some heuristic scanning, unless those tests are really badware? Avast should not report on leaktests unless they are malware! But heuristic's working is good though.

It does not have that capability, sadly.  :(
If confirmed, it's not for me and not for anyone that uses a router + P2P program, as you can't have high ID to download without full control over the firewall port (network) access.
The best things in life are free.

Will just be another stripped down version, they are coming out with an Ashampoo Personal Firewall Pro, which will cost money. Those who paid for the Ashampoo Firewall before it was announced free, will get the Pro version free of charge.

How is the self protection of this Firewall?
So far I've liked this firewall but ...

The process is terminated quite easily with the task manager and after I ran a Spybot S&D scan this morning I find that the Windows Firewall notification has been disabled (see attachment).  This was not the case prior to installing AShampoo so my assumption is that AShampoo disabled the notification.  Hopefully they will have better protection in a future version as this seems to be a rather large potential security gap.

@Sasha

Can you see if this is the situation for you as well?

Hi mauserme,
Actually it's not.
If you read the explanation, it specifically said:

I know that ZoneAlarm and probably many other Firewall programs disable the Windows Firewall if they are active.

They might well disable the windows firewall but they shouldn't disable the firewall notification that would indicate your firewall has been disabled.

However looking at the image it the notification would appear to have been disabled. FirewallDisableNotify!=dword: 0 the 0 usually means off so if the so the notification has been disabled/switched off not just the windows firewall. Change the value to 1 (on) should resolve that and Spybot S&D shouldn't object.

Your right Bob3160 about Windows Firewall being shut down by another Firewall. Ex: I use Kerio, here's what they say>". Note: Kerio will automatically disable the Windows Firewall that is included in Windows XP. " It doesn't say it will disable the notification however. Not sure if the Ashampoo is disabling the notification or not.

I'm just going by what the notification in S&D said which is the program that mauserme used
and who's results he questioned.  Those aren't my words, they come directly from the S&D program.

These are two simple skins for Ashampoo firewall. Options are very basic, so there is not much that can be done to drastically change this firewalls appearance. Also, I am not going to make skins for this firewall because it already looks quite clean... maybe even more than it should look, lol. I really started to like simple GUIs like BitDefender has. Security applications really must be free of any additional memory hogs such as heavy graphic is... even GHOST firewall looks great and it doesn't use any graphics that's heavy on CPU and memory usage.

It's just I had 5 minutes on my hands, and I came up with these two. In case, orange is too much for you, here you can find dark gray version of it, and the blue one (like the top header part at Ashampoo's web site).

Dark gray version:

Blue version:

You can download ZIP files here:

Black version download link:
http://www.rapidupload.com/d.php?file=dl&filepath=17777 (Click on DOWNLOAD FILE at the top of the page)

Blue version download link:
http://www11.rapidupload.com/d.php?file=dl&filepath=27213 (Click on DOWNLOAD FILE at the top of the page)

Unzip them, and place those two folders under SKIN subfolder (your default Ashampoo installation folder). Choose the one you like from Ashampoo's menu SETTINGS / SKIN and restart the application to see changes (completely shut down the firewall, and restart it).

Cheers !

They might well disable the windows firewall but they shouldn't disable the firewall notification that would indicate your firewall has been disabled.

Exactly.

I expect a third party firewall to disable the windows firewall but I still want notifications enabled.  Or, if its necessary to turn off the notifications for some reason (like the Security Center won't recognize the program) at least let the user know up front.

btw, I have confirmed that the notifications were disabled.  Turning off the firewall produces no alert from Windows at all.

Still, I like this program and just mention the above to let others know there is something to watch - not trying to discourage anyone from trying it.

And Sasha, you're right about faster boot times.  Its surprising how much faster my computer boots with this.
