bypassing the virus warning
« on: August 24, 2006, 05:15:39 PM »
I have a free p2p program on my puter which will not work w/o a particular associated program on the puter also. This is, of course, an adware program. I managed to reinstall it, after I had avast remove it, not realizing what I was removing until too late, by shutting avast! down temporarily, but I cannot get past the avast! warning in my attempts to run my p2p program. How do I get avast! to ignore this adware program? I do have other software on my puter which stops it (the aforementioned adware program) from working, i.e., popping up, but this software doesn't find viruses as does avast! Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S., I sometimes am a little slow on the uptake, so please don't assume I know anything. I'd much rather have more detail than I need than not enough.

My thanx

There are a lot of free and NON-adware P2P programs... are you sure you want to keep this particular one?  ::)

How do I get avast! to ignore this adware program?

For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the 'a' blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button...

For the other providers (on-demmand scanning):
Right click the 'a' blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button...

You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be carefull, you should 'exclude' that many files that let your system in danger, specially when related to P2P programs...  :P
The best things in life are free.

I thank you for your help. As to keeping this particular program... I'm open. I use this one because I get very good response as compared to those few I have tried in the past, however I haven't tried any other at all since I discovered this one some time ago. Any suggestions most assuredly are welcome. The less grief we cause ourselves, the better, right?

 :)  Hi Grandan :

Quite a few P2P Programs download adware, if not
worse, because the "bad" stuff is within the download.
      I have heard that one has a rootkit, which is very bad;
you wouldn't by chance have Limewire !?
Anyway, I have been recommending the safer &
"cleaner" Shareaza from www.shareaza.com for quite
       some time .
What kind of antiSPYWARE and/or rootkit detection
programs have you been running on your computer ?
