Brightcloud blocking VPN IP's
« on: December 15, 2019, 12:27:21 PM »
Brightcloud is blocking Avast VPN IP's, just now 5.62.24.52. Their client is University of North Carolina which provides a link to Brightcloud to object, which I did.

I suspect this is why I get blocked from some sites, like a number of news organizations, that seem to also think the Atlanta and NYC IP's I am usually assigned are actually from somewhere in Europe and refuse the connection.

This is something Avast should address with security vendors like Brightcloud.

Oh, and the verification image is impossible for someone with eye issues to read, and the audio version does not work

I have done that. Switching cities, or just staying disconnected for a couple of minutes to make sure I get a different IP.

Update: Brightcloud responded and said they had removed the IP I reported. I do not know how far that removal goes though. Just that single IP, or a range.

Their email:

Hello again -
We have reviewed 5.62.24.52, and have updated the IP address to Trustworthy. Here’s what we know about the IP:

This change is now published in the BrightCloud Service and is available in IP Threat Database version 1.2391. You may check the latest status on http://brightcloud.com/support/lookup.php.
