Can you go back to "Free"
« on: January 14, 2020, 05:30:13 PM »
Hi, this may sound like the most stupid question, but past experience has to ask. Avast has served me better than any anti-virus program that comes "free" for a trial period when purchasing a new pc, laptop, uh, OS, by far. I, am speaking of the basic, or free version of Avast, and it's not that I do not want to support the excellence in its service, oh no. I, fear upgrading to a paid subscription may not have the appreciation of the basic version for whatever reason.
Is it possible to go back to the basic, "free," after subscribing to a paid plan without consequence? I, will not mention which programs offering a "free trial" upgrade I, tried, but cancelled, and then restricted my usage/functions had before opting for the trial, sadly. It seems petty, I, know, but what if the upgrade isn't . . . for me after all? I, do not want to screw up a good thing.
Much appreciation!

You have to be careful with free trials, if to get that free trial you have to give a payment mandate, which would kick in after the free trial.

Whilst it is relatively easy to go back to the free version if you have signed up to the auto payment mandate, you would also have to cancel that.

To go back to the avast free version, just go into the control panel, programs, avast antivirus and select uninstall.  Following that through you should get an option to install Avast Free.

Thanks! I'm glad for asking, because I wanted to subscribe for the year mainly, for the VPN, but who knows after the year is up. Do you know if it is transferable if, I purchase a new laptop within the year?

Yes, save you license. Remove the product from the old system, install it on the new system and use your license on the new system.

You're welcome, I had thought that you were considering the Avast Premium Security when you mentioned this.

So it shouldn't be an issue as you could use the Avast VPN in/alongside Avast Free, it would only be a case of removing the Avast VPN at the end of the trial or end of the years license and of course cancelling the auto payment mandate.
