Avast hates Windows 10
« on: January 16, 2020, 06:52:35 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm currently struggling with installing of AVAST,

I have a Dell laptop, it was running Windows 8.1 and my subscription to Avast. It had no problems.
Then Dell informed me I should consider upgrading to Windows10 and they assisted me in doing this FREE, so I upgraded.

But during the normal upgrade process I started having problems already, it couldn't complete the upgrade and always reverted back to WINDOWS8.1 at the end.

They advised me to do a fresh install and not just upgrade(after back up all of my files),
the system was then formatted and Windows10 was installed without any problems.

First thing I did was to download the latest version of Avast (didn't want to go unprotected), and installed it.
left it for hours as it seemed to be slow, later I noticed that the Laptop was actually stuck, couldn't do anything.
I needed to power off and on to get it to work again, but It never worked again, was just a BLACK SCREEN.

Couldn't repair windows,
couldn't repair start-up,
couldn't revert to previous point.

Ended up getting into safe mode and uninstalled Avast and then restarted,
still nothing,
could only use the laptop in safe mode.

I ended up having to format and again do a fresh install of WIndows 10,
Then after install of windows I started to load some of my apps to test the windows and it had no problem, I ran it for a day and it was fast and everything worked.
I then went to AVAST site and downloaded the newest version for that day,
Installed it this time with RIGHT CLICK and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR,
Again after it downloaded and started the install, the whole LAPTOP froze and couldn't do anything.

LONG STORY SHORT...I'm on my 4th fresh install of Windows 10 and it just did it again,
AVAST kills my Windows10 every time.

You have protection, Win10 comes with Windows Defender

I did use this at try 3, LOL.
Found it while searching for a fix for my problem.

Only thing I don't understand:
08. Install Avast Free by doing a right-click on the program downloaded in step #1 - select run as Administrator then select install.

09. Shutdown your system -- wait 10 seconds -- Start your computer.

Must I shutdown the system while it still tries to install(before the crash phase)?

Thanks for your feedback and questions.
08 is correct the is a popup from avast where you need to select Install.
I've made a slight change in the 08 instruction, that will clarify 09.
