You don't have silent mode enabled right?
I think you've hit the nail on the head.
I just turned on silent mode, restarted the computer and now can't see anything when I select an on demand scan.
Silent mode Silences Avast. If you want to see what Avast is doing, Don't Use Silent Mode. :)

This is intentional behaviour.

This thread explains a bit about it: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=210755.0

  This is still an issue.

Avast deliberately impaired right-click scanning of a single file in order to force viewers off Silent Mode to make them see or hear ads.

I have been a big fan of avast but will be happy when we all move to Win 10, where Windows Defender does a very nice job with a much smaller footprint and much less interference in our lives.

No, you decided to use silent mode to avoid the occasional ad in the free version.
Simply disable it, do your scan and then enable silent mode again. Or, put up with the occasional ad.

I too have the same "right click " problem. I right click the file , click scan and nothing happens.

Same problem, do you mean that you also have silent mode enabled ?

Have you tried an Avast Repair, etc. as mentioned earlier in the topic ?
