Asyn. Thanks for that.

Incidentally even though I removed MSE last week before installing Avast, on the morning of the 15th I noticed my PC was running very slowly, low and behold I had 4 large updates from Microsoft which took over an hour to download/load.
I asked Microsoft live chat why whilst I was getting updates after the 14th cut off date and they explained that I might get them for a few weeks afterwards! I have now turned off the download/install facility and Avast seems the be working fine-without any interruptions about upgrading.

So far a pretty painless swap from MSE to Avast. Thanks to your self any other Members for the advice.
Regards
R.

Of course they support Windows 7, last system where they get some data and money. On Win 10 you have Windows defender for free.

On Windows 7, you still have Avast Free. :)
That Avast free version is also available and used by many of us on Windows 10.

Of course you can use Avast on Win 10, but is not needed. Windows Defender is more than enough for security. There is no popup ads and i hope less data collection. And of course system should be more stable without 3rd party antivirus. I dont want tell Avast is bad. Avast is faster and has more features but this not force me install anything more if i am already protected. Both Antiviruses has excellent detections. If Win 10 has no Antivirus i choose Avast for sure, but not if is Defender in Windows. Maybe one day will be here Ballot screen on windows for choosing Antivirus as was years ago for choosing web browser.

Currently i am on Win 7 (loved system), but one day i will be forced to "downgrade" to Win 10 and there i dont see much reason install Avast.

You're entitled to your opinions.
I happen not to share those opinions. :)
