There is no standalone Avast in the installed programs; just  separate entries for secure line VPN, internet security, cleanup premium and secure browser. Hence no option to repair Avast. No option to repair any of the 4 installed services. What is just Avast? What "Avast" would I repair?

Regardless, there is no repair option.

Regardless, there is no repair option.
Select uninstall and you'll see an option to repair.

On the computer I'm responding to your post with running Win7 I see uninstall, change or repair. The other computer running Win10 latest version there  is only uninstall or change. No repair option. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Avast Internet Security several times  to no avail.

Can you access Avast UI..!?

If so, repair Avast:
1. Avast GUI -> Settings -> Troubleshooting
2. Click on 'REPAIR APP'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

It's the Avast User Interface.
Access it by clicking on the icon on your desktop or,
Left click the Avast system tray icon.

I go to the desktop icon and try to open the Avast console and get the following message.

"The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe for more detail."

Are you sure Avast is actually installed on your system?

Absolutely YES I'M SURE it is installed on that computer. Right in the list with the VPN, Secure Browser and Cleanup Premium. It was working fine before the major Win 10 update. Maybe check with Microsoft about WTHeck is going on?

I have no issue loading the secure browser or opening the security and privacy center. Selecting bank mode from the security and privacy center goes nowhere. I intend to eventually use that other computer to wean off of Win7 and switch to Win10. I use bank mode for lots of sites besides financial sites. It keeps me logged in on those sites for a long time which I really like.

For one thing I think that the link to reinstallation that was posted earlier isn't any good. I uninstalled Avast using the earlier clean uninstall link and rebooted. I went to the Avast website and downloaded the FREE version and installed it. Next I re-activated the license for Avast premium security, updated and rebooted. It now seems to be working except I don't have the secure browser. Since it didn't install automatically how do I get it back? That's the part I want the most. I'm afraid that if I over-install using your other link that I'll mess it up again. Is your download a one size fits all as far as OS is concerned?
