New Def Notification

Not sure if this is the place, but I did notice something that seems to be wrong.  I have the latest version of Avast Home, running on XPSp2.  A couple of days ago, I had the DSL modem turned off as well as the computer.  When I turned on the computer, I forgot the modem.  As the normal desktop came up, the little blue notification window came up and said it had installed new defs.  Huh? The modem is off and I don't think it was from before I shut the computer down.  Anyone have any idea why this should be?  Thanks

Unless you like a lot of SPAM, I suggest you change your email link to something that isn't 'live' (clickable)
Answers to your questions are posted in the forum not sent via email that way every one gets the benefits of the answers.
Are you sure it didn't say that it wasn't able to update ???

To answer the two replies, yes, I am almost certain of what the window said, but as you say, I could have read it wrong.  As I remember, it specifically said it had installed a new def.

And to the other question, no, I haven't had a dialup connection for years.

Thanks for pointing out the live email.  Obviously, even with my experience in computers, I am a total newbie at forums.  I don't communicate very well with computers.  That's why I have and use telephones, amateur radio and other live methods.  I have email accounts mostly for on line purchases and some bill paying, not for communication.
